Part-Time Tour Guide/Concierge
Pay: $16.75 per hour
Schedule: Flexible scheduling.
Reports to: Director of the Historic Athens Welcome Center
Work Location: 280 E Dougherty St, Athens, GA
Overview
As a Tour Guide/Concierge, you'll be responsible for providing an engaging and informative tour of our house museum and the local area, driving a 14-passenger tour vehicle, operating a mobile vending cart towed by an e-bike, and recommending places and things to do in Athens, Georgia.
Responsibilities
Greet and welcome customers to the welcome center and provide information about the itinerary for each tour.
Plan itineraries per weather forecasts and the length of each tour.
Gather and maintain the requisite equipment for each tour.
Familiarize yourself with the layout and history of the region and house museum in which you will be working.
Memorize scripted tours and deliver them in an engaging and informative manner.
Drive a 14-passenger tour vehicle safely while delivering scripted tours.
Safely operate an e-bike while towing a vending cart, ensuring smooth and efficient transportation of goods to designated locations.
Familiarize customers with each place or establishment.
Providing information and assistance to visitors on attractions, events, and services in Athens and the surrounding area.
Maintaining a clean and organized welcome center, including restocking brochures and keeping displays tidy.
Answering phone calls and responding to email inquiries.
Operating a cash register and handling cash and credit card transactions for ticket sales, gift shop purchases, and tour bookings.
Collaborating with other staff members to develop and execute marketing and promotional activities for the welcome center and its programs.
Maintaining accurate records of visitor information, sales transactions, and tour bookings.
Adhering to all safety and security procedures for the welcome center and its operations.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Director.
Job Requirements
A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required. Applicants must satisfactorily pass a 3-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) screening.
Goal-oriented, positive, upbeat, and friendly with the ability to maintain composure under pressure and resolve visitor concerns.
Excellent verbal and public speaking skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
Ability to transport customers safely in a 14-passenger van (CDL not required).
Ability to operate an e-bike while towing a vending cart.
Basic computer skills, including the ability to use the Internet, desktop computer, printer, mobile apps, an Apple iPad, and point of sale.
Ability to work independently with minimum direction and periodic supervision.
Ability to walk for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, and work in an outdoor environment for long periods.
Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment by being respectful and courteous to everyone, valuing diversity, and making sure that visitors with disabilities, language barriers, or other special needs are accommodated.
Knowledge of Athens's culture and history, as well as a familiarity with current attractions and things to do, are a plus!
